2015-2016 Gala Celebration Recap

September 30, 2016 was an evening that the Acting Out Productions family will not soon forget! Attendees were encouraged to dress in their "glitziest", and there was glamour in the air. The "Glitter Gala" was emceed by AOP's Creative Directors, Liza Altenburg and Kelly R. Lomas, who were joined onstage by Business Directors Julia Doddie and Janine Goethe-Brown for award presentations. In addition, performers from the company's inaugural season were on hand to keep the audience entertained. It was truly a night of celebration, recognition, exciting announcements, and fun! Awards were given to performers from the eight shows offered during AOP's 2015-2016 season, and to the theatre company's key supporters and contributors. Attendees enjoyed the amazing food donated by local businesses, and watched incredible performances by Downriver's very finest.

Also receiving awards were Acting Out Productions' "Super Supporters", those individuals who attended all of the 2015-2016 season's shows, and helped to spread the word of AOP as an up-and-coming theatre company in the Downriver area.

Special recognition was also given to AOP's team of volunteers who ensure that each production has all of the support that it needs.

Each of these individuals received a lapel pin as a token of appreciation. "Without this group of incredible people, we wouldn't be able to offer the on- and off-stage opportunities that we do," Kelly Lomas explained to the audience during the presentation of recognition.

The first-ever "Sparkle and Shine Awards" were presented to the child, teen, and adult that, during the 2015-2016 season, most embodied the spirit and values of Acting Out Productions. They were chosen for their incredible work ethics, consistent positive attitudes and tireless optimism, desire to contribute to the growth of community theatre Downriver, and dedication to their roles as Acting Out Productions family members.

The evening also featured the much-anticipated announcement of a new program that Acting Out Productions will be offering. The program, Piece by Peace, will offer all people the opportunity to share their performance gifts on stage. This program will allow students with autism and special needs to learn the basics of theatre, and to showcase their talents.​ Special needs professional Sarah Leonard will lead the group's efforts in launching the program.
